Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at third-year quarterback Bo Nix, No. 10.
Before the Broncos: Nix (6-2, 217 pounds) spent five years in college with stops at Auburn and Oregon. Nix played in 61 collegiate contests as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation from 2019-23. Nix twice led the NCAA in completion percentage and had his best season in 2023 with the Ducks. Nix topped the leaderboard in completion percentage, touchdowns, completions, yards per attempt and QBR. He was then drafted 12th overall in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos.
Broncos tenure: After being drafted, the starting job wasn't immediately handed to Nix; he had to win a quarterback battle over veterans Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. After winning the starting role, Nix never let it go. In 2024, Nix became just the second rookie in franchise history to start Week 1 of his rookie season under center. The other guy to accomplish that feat was John Elway. Nix would lead the Broncos into the playoffs in 2024, breaking several NFL and franchise records along the way, going 376-of-567 for 3,775 yards. Despite a first-round playoff exit, Nix didn't back down. He put up an even better year in 2025, going 388-of-612 for 3,931 yards, 30 total touchdowns (25 passing, five rushing), and just 11 interceptions. Nix led the Broncos to the top seed in the AFC before knocking off the Buffalo Bills in the AFC divisional matchup. The win proved to be extremely costly; on one of the last plays of the win, Nix fractured his ankle, ending his season prematurely.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Lock. If any roster spot could be filled in Sharpie, it's Nix's control on the QB1 slot. Nix's health going into 2026 will be the biggest storyline to watch, with the success of the team and their ceiling going into the year largely hinging on the strength of Nix's body. With Nix, the Broncos are one of the AFC's contenders on Super Bowl watch before the season even kicks off.
