Denver Broncos backup offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo went down in the third quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals and appeared to be in serious pain. Gargiulo's right leg was immobilized and he was carted into the locker room and quickly ruled out with a knee injury.

Gargiulo (6-5, 310 pounds) was picked in the seventh round of last year's NFL draft out of South Carolina (and Yale before that). After failing to make the 53-man roster last summer, Gargiulo spent his rookie season on Denver's practice squad. He went into training camp this year looking to win a spot as a backup swing guard/center.

With Gargiulo sidelined, the team's remaining center options are starter Luke Wattenberg, primary backup Alex Forsyth and undrafted rookie Joe Michalski. The team's backup guard contenders include Calvin Throckmorton, Will Sherman and Clay Webb. We should find out more about Gargiulo's injury in the coming days.
