After firing general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, the Minnesota Vikings will have Rob Brzezinski serve as an interim GM through the 2026 NFL draft. Following the draft, Minnesota will seek a new GM.
In an article published by The Athletic's Alec Lewis and Dianna Russini on Sunday, current Denver Broncos GM George Paton was mentioned as a "name circulating in conversations with league sources" as a possible Adofo-Mensah replacement.
The article went on to note that "Paton remains under contract with Denver and is well regarded by both Broncos ownership and head coach Sean Payton."
One day after that story, The Athletic's Mike Sando wrote that Paton "would be a logical successor in Minnesota."
Paton, 55, is entering the final year of a six-year contract he signed with the Broncos in 2021. Before landing in Denver, he worked in Minnesota's front office from 2007-2020, working his way up from director of player personnel to assistant GM and V.P. of player personnel.
Because he still has a year left on his contract with the Broncos, the Vikings would have to compensate Denver if they acquire Paton following the 2026 NFL draft. Based on the way owner/CEO Greg Penner and coach Sean Payton have spoken about Paton, it's hard to imagine Denver moving on from the GM. But with his contract entering its final year, Paton might be able to use the Minnesota buzz as leverage for a nice pay raise. Stay tuned.
