The Denver Broncos have added a new safety to the mix.

The Broncos reached an agreement on a one-year deal with free agent safety Tycen Anderson on Thursday. Anderson will give the team more depth at the position following the departure of P.J. Locke, who left to join the Dallas Cowboys during NFL free agency.

Brandon Jones and Talanoa Hufunga will remain the team's starting safeties in 2026, but there could be an open competition this summer for Locke's former role as the No. 3 safety. Devon Key might be the early favorite to replace Locke after he earned an All-Pro nod as a special teams ace last season.

In addition to Key, Denver has JL Skinner, who also played a key role on special teams in 2025. Anderson will likely get an opportunity to compete with Key and Skinner for a top backup spot at safety during training camp and preseason.

  • FS: Brandon Jones
  • SS: Talanoa Hufunga
  • S3: Devon Key
  • ST: Tycen Anderson, JL Skinner

Note that this is only a projection, and Denver will undoubtedly add more competition to the room. The Broncos currently hold seven draft picks, and they will fill out the 90-man offseason roster with undrafted free agents following the draft later this spring.
