The Brockton High School athletic department and Brockton Public Schools have listed a job opening for the high school's head football coaching position.
The listing went up on SchoolSpring at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28 with an application deadline of Tuesday, May 12 at midnight. It was the only listing made by the school district on that day.
The opening is also the only high school coaching position currently listed by the district as of the morning of Thursday, April 30.
The job posting comes almost two years after Brockton High graduate and former player Jailson Silva was named the program’s head coach. In July 2024, Silva took over for former New England Patriots tight end and current WEEI radio host Jermaine Wiggins, who resigned from the position after just one year.
Silva confirmed with The Enterprise that he will be reapplying for the position.
In his first two seasons, Silva led Brockton High to consecutive Division 1 state tournament appearances with an overall record of 8-13. Silva has also worked in the district for more than a decade, currently as a behavior interventionist.

In an email, director of communications for Brockton Public Schools Jordan Mayblum told The Enterprise, “The position is required to be posted via agreement with the Brockton Education Association (BEA).”
Mayblum further added that the listing was in line with requirements of a collective bargaining agreement, and that "It's not uncommon for positions occupied during one school year to be posted ahead of the following year due to licensing requirements."
In December, Brockton Public Schools and the BEA reached an agreement on a new contract, effective through August 2029.
Last month, Brockton High School athletic director Kevin Karo warned that the athletic department was eliminating nine part-time roles at a school committee meeting on March 17. Those cuts included five assistants to the athletic director, football equipment manager, middle school football supervisor, supervisor of middle school sports, and faculty manager.
He also announced that a full-time assistant athletic director will be hired by the district.
The job listing for the head football coach includes responsibilities such as to "Ensure proper cleaning, maintenance of equipment and uniforms," and "Provide the Assistant Director of Athletics with a yearly inventory of all equipment and uniforms," and to "help distribute and collect all football equipment at the beginning and end of the season," as well as to "ensure that all game uniforms are collected, cleaned, inventoried and re-distributed on a weekly basis."
The coach is also required to "provide a yearly inventory of all equipment and uniforms."
According to the job listing on SchoolSpring, the salary for the position will be a stipend worth $15,492.
