The Connecticut Sun and Atlanta Dream played in a physical WNBA regular-season matchup on Tuesday. However, one play during the fourth quarter garnered the most attention. Brittney Griner’s hard foul on Angel Reese drew reactions on social media.
The play happened with 7:44 remaining. The centers tried to position themselves for a rebound but their arms got entangled. Griner’s left arm was across Reese’s neck, and she dropped the Dream superstar when she attempted to get it loose.

Griner received a Flagrant 1 foul. The good news was the incident didn’t cause a skirmish as she immediately extended her arms to help Reese get up from the floor.
Fans shared strong reactions in the comments section.
“Angel Reese would be a great actress if she ever needed a second career,” one fan said.
“That was literally all Angel grabbing her arm and flopping like a fish. If Griner wanted to throw her down she coulda but that’s not what happened,” a reaction read.
“You guys are calling this flopping? You must be out of your minds,” one user wrote.
“Slight flop by Angel but Grinner arm was around her neck that’s unnecessary why your arm around her neck tho I think it’s a hard foul,” posted another.
“Players see the officials targeting her so they see that as a sign that it’s open season on Angel and can target her as well,” a comment read.
“That looked more reckless than malicious, but I can see why they called the Flagrant 1. Tough contact, especially with Angel already in the air,” another fan commented.
Reese and the Dream continued their winning ways, registering their sixth victory in eight games. The two-time All-Star recorded a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double to back Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray’s 62 combined points. Aneeshah Morrow, on the other hand, led the Sun with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Griner finished with seven points, four rebounds and three assists.
Atlanta will return to action on Thursday to face Caitlin Clark and the struggling Indiana Fever. Meanwhile, Connecticut will visit the Chicago Sky the following day.
