British Open tee times announced: McIlroy, Scheffler groups set

If the end of LIV Golf is near, the featured groups during the opening rounds of the 2026 Open Championship have suddenly provided an interesting recruiting window. The world's best golfers will reconvene for the final major of the year at Royal Birkdale this week and tournament organizers announced tee times that will put LIV's most coveted potential free agents on the course with marquee PGA Tour stars beginning Thursday, July 16.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will play Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2026 Open Championship in a group with Bryson DeChambeau and Tyrrell Hatton of LIV Golf. They'll be followed by a group with Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood playing with LIV's Jon Rahm. Scheffler and DeChambeau have been partners at the Ryder Cup in the past, while Fleetwood and Rahm are European Ryder Cup mainstays.

Rory McIlroy will play with two-time major winners Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick in another notable grouping for Rounds 1 and 2. They'll be preceded by U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, Cameron Young and Ludvig Aberg.

Tee times begin as early as 1:35 a.m. ET with the tournament being held in England. Here's a breakdown of the full schedule and featured groups for Round 1 at the 2026 Open Championship:
