BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) – After an unforgettable season, Bristol Rhythm AFC fans poured into Gene Malcolm Stadium one more time for the NPSL National Championship Game against El Farolito.
Many of them were hoping to see the hometown team come away with a win and its first-ever NPSL Championship.
“It doesn’t matter what club you’re a fan of; if your club is in for a National Championship for a cup in soccer, that’s incredibly important. To see the city be in this position is fantastic,” a Rhythm fan said.
The Rhythm held their own against El Farolito in the first half, taking a 0-0 tie into the break.
“I hope every season from here on out is just as successful. I love to see the stands get packed more and more every year because it’s just great,” Another fan said.

El Farolito pulled away after half, taking the NPSL National Championship Game 3-0, their second in 3 years, last winning it in 2024.
“Go Bristol Rhythm, we’re so proud of everybody that’s been involved with the team this season, it’s awesome, it’s magical, they have earned it,” A fan said.
After the game, Diane Smith, Bristol Rhythm AFC owner and general manager, told News Channel 11 that even though the loss stings, it was still an unbelievable season and one that they hope to build on.
“For my players, obviously we want the win, but I’m so proud of how they have got this far in a season with a first-year head coach, in the season where it was the first where they ever played together. I mean, they just shattered any expectations we had, and we are the National Semi-finalists in our third season,” Diane Smith said.
