MOUNT PLEASANT — Bristol Miller may only be a freshman.
But she's played a large role for the senior-heavy Fowler softball team in a strong season that has included league, district and regional titles.
And Miller helped Fowler to another big accomplishment.
Miller's two-out double to left field in the bottom of the sixth provided the go-ahead run for No. 8-ranked Fowler in its 2-1 state quarterfinal win over No. 5-ranked Bellaire at Central Michigan University's Margo Jonker Stadium on Tuesday, June 9.
The win sends Fowler to the state semifinals at Michigan State for the first time since 2014.
Miller's double drove in older sister and Maryland commit Saige Miller for the winning run as part of a two-run sixth inning.
"I haven't had confidence much," Bristol said. "I knew my team needed it. My sister and my dad were down at third base giving me much confidence. I didn't want to end my season with my sister. I just wanted to play more."
She will now have that chance after prevailing an 11-pitch battle for the key hit, which was one of just four in the game for Fowler.
"For Bristol to have a great at-bat like that and her sister cheering her on at third base, I couldn't be more proud," said Fowler coach Brian Miller, who is Saige and Bristol's father.
Addison Spicer drove in the other run for Fowler on a sacrifice fly before Bristol came to the plate.
Neelah O'Rourke made the lead stand by retiring Bellaire in order in the seventh. She retired the final six hitters she faced after giving up a leadoff double upon entering the game in relief in the sixth.
Tuesday's victory was the latest tight win over a ranked team pulled out by Fowler in their run to the Division 4 state semifinals. Fowler knocked off No. 7 Beal City, 1-0, in a regional semifinal and followed with a 6-3 win over No. 6 St. Louis in the regional Saturday, June 6.
"We actually haven't hit all that well in this tournament," Brian Miller said. "We've just made timely hits. We get baserunners on and we make it count."
