Brian White, brother of Tennessee athletics director Danny White, has been hired as Virginia Tech's AD, continuing the family legacy in college sports administration.
Virginia Tech announced on June 22 that it had hired White, who previously served as Florida Atlantic's AD (2018-26). He had also worked in athletics administration at Missouri (2015-18), Army (2014-15), Tulsa (2014) and Louisiana Tech (2012-14).
"Few institutions in college athletics possess the combination of tradition, passion, institutional support and untapped potential that exists at Virginia Tech. I am excited to partner with Coach James Franklin as we continue building a championship-caliber football program," Brian White said.
"That same commitment to success will extend across all 22 sports as we work alongside our exceptional head coaches, dedicated staff and talented student-athletes to compete for championships. Together, we will pursue excellence relentlessly, strengthen our competitive position and elevate Virginia Tech Athletics to new heights."
White's family was referenced in the Virginia Tech news release.
Danny White has been Tennessee's AD since 2021. He led the athletic departments at Buffalo and UCF before that. Their brother, Mike White, is the men's basketball coach at Georgia. Their sister, Mariah Chappell, previously served as assistant AD at SMU.
Their father, Kevin White, served as Duke's AD for 13 years, retiring in 2021. That capped a 40-year run as AD at six schools, including Notre Dame.
