I noticed now that some people are now jumping on the Biran Cook bandwagon as a selection that the Suns should make with their 17 pick. Up until the article in the Insider appeared no one had Cook on their mind.

My take on Cook is this:

He had a GREAT senior year for the Illini. He displayed a good inside/outside game. My problem with Cook is he was an underachiever (big time) for the first 3 years of his Illini career. He stepped it up in his senior year which I think partly was due to the fact that he had to do something to become draftable.

The knock on him is just that mentally he's not in the game 100% of the time and this is what worries GM's throughout the NBA.
Also he cannot play the 5 at the NBA level.

I am neither advocating nor am I suggesting the Suns draft/not draft Cook. It just amazes me a week ago no one talked about Cook on this site as a potential Suns draft pick until a article came out on him that the Suns worked him out in Chciago and were impressed. Keep in mind when they worked out West in Phoenix they were impressed.

If I'm the Suns I would consider him at 17 but I would be very concerned about the mental makekup of this player.

Cook was mentioned by Joe Mama it seemed weeks ago and Cook can play the 5 on Suns (smallball), Tsakalidis and Voskuhl are still on team. Cook is more of a 5 than Zarko is a 4...

Actually I've been mentioning Brian Cook since the draft talk started. I do agree that the "mental" issues scare me some. I do worry a little that he will be a big man version of Joe Johnson.
