The New York Yankees seemed willing to trade pitcher Will Warren to the San Diego Padres in exchange for Adrian Morejón. However, the Padres rejected the deal.
Furthermore, Yankees GM Brian Cashman is refuting the rumor that they were willing to engage in a trade, per Jorge Castillo of ESPN.
“We never had a discussion with San Diego that way,” Cashman said.

The prospect of a trade between the Yankees and Padres sparked mass confusion. It all started when Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the Padres had disregarded the offer from New York. Then, Brendan Kuty and Dennis Lin of The Athletic, as well as Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, each concluded through a source that New York had never submitted a formal deal.
Ultimately, both teams were in communication with one another about strengthening their pitching rotations. But it never went further than that.
Warren is currently under a deal with the Yankees that lasts until the 203o season. He is currently 8-5 wth a 4.14 ERA with 109 strikeouts. Meanwhile, Morejon is 8-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 70 strikeouts. The Yankees are looking to boost their bullpen, whereas the Padres are looking to add to their starting rotation.
At the same time, both teams are vying for a playoff spot. The Yankees are battling the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East Division while also leading the American League Wild Card standings at 63-50. The Padres are in third place in the National League West at 58-54 and are on the National League Wild Card bubble.
