Veteran Tennessee Titans players Chig Okonkwo, Peter Skoronski, Tyler Lockett and Xavier Woods spoke with media on May 1, all comfortably discussing the idea that No. 1 NFL draft pick Cam Ward will be the Titans' starting quarterback in 2025.

Skoronski says the only thing Ward's going to need to do in order to win over his teammates is do what he's always done. Okonkwo says he thinks returning Titans have already been won over.

And still, coach Brian Callahan isn't ready to say Ward has an edge over returning quarterback Will Levis or journeyman adds Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle as the Titans enter the on-field phase of the offseason.

"They’re all going to have opportunities to compete," Callahan said when asked how the quarterback reps will be divided up in OTAs and minicamp. "There’s three quarterback jobs on most teams. Sometimes four. We’re going to let them compete for all those."

Callahan says the plan for dividing quarterback revolves around rewarding success. Each quarterback will get a number of opportunities. The ones that perform the best will get more. Callahan says the offense will take "baby steps" with all of its passers in hopes that, by September, the right players will be ready.

The Titans have been careful not to anoint Ward a franchise savior since drafting him on April 24, even if the franchise un-retired Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon's number for him to wear and turned down trade hauls including multiple first round picks just to take him.

This is a bit of a contrast from last year, when Callahan was quick to name Levis as the franchise's starter and unwavering in that declaration through the offseason, training camp and well into the season despite repeated struggles.

Levis doesn't have that mantle anymore, but Callahan is still speaking highly of the third-year passer.

"I think Will’s done a really good job of focusing what he can improve at," Callahan said. "I’m excited to see what that looks like and what work he’s put in. Will’s always worked. There’s no doubt about that. That’s always been something he’s done. I think he had a very clear path of what he wanted to accomplish this offseason and he spent the time worrying about him. At the quarterback position in general, that’s all that you can control."
