Brewers urged to go 'all-in' with trade for Tigers Cy Young-winning ace originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Milwaukee Brewers are sitting atop the NL Central, and they're looking like one of the better teams in baseball so far this season.
Kyle Harrison and Jacob Misiorowski are breaking out, and add in a few high-quality relievers, and a good offense, and this team has the makings of a World Series contender. There should be no question that the Brewers will be trade deadline buyers.
ESPN's David Schoenfield is urging the Brewers to go "all-in" this season, and swing a blockbuster deal by the August 3 trade deadline to acquire Detroit Tigers Cy Young-winning ace, Tarik Skubal.
Brewers urged to go 'all-in' with trade for Tarik Skubal
"If there's ever a year to go all-in, this is it," Schoenfield writes. "Skubal could be that final piece for the Brewers, and he not only adds another ace to go with Jacob Misiorowski but also gives them another lefty starter alongside Kyle Harrison to combat Shohei Ohtani and a lefty-heavy Dodgers lineup."
While the Brewers might not be a team that typically spends a lot, trading for Skubal this summer is the exact kind of move that's worth breaking the trend to make.
Skubal, the back-to-back Cy Young winner, hasn't been as good as he was during those elite seasons in 2024 and 2025. But, he still has a 3.15 ERA this season with 75 strikeouts in 11 starts and 65.2 innings pitched.
Milwaukee has the talent to make a deep postseason run, but to supplant the Los Angeles Dodgers atop the National League, they need to make this kind of move.

Not only would adding Skubal give the Brewers three of the best pitchers in baseball, but they would also stop the Dodgers from adding the Tigers' ace in a trade.
Schoenfield is also urging the Dodgers to trade for Skubal, so from the Brewers' perspective, adding the Tigers ace would not only help their team but also block their top rival from getting better.
Not that such a reason will be the deciding factor, but it's at least something worth considering when it comes to a potential Skubal trade.
Schoenfield is urging the Brewers to trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, and it's the kind of move that makes perfect sense for a team that really should be going "all-in" this season.
