The Milwaukee Brewers are 74-45, first place in the National League Central and five and a half games up on the second-place Chicago Cubs. They will try to defend their 2025 NL Central title down the stretch.
In typical Brewers fashion, it has been the pitching staff doing the heavy lifting. This season, their 3.47 ERA ranks second in MLB and 26.6% strikeout rate ranks first.
One of the pitchers to contribute to this is right-handed reliever Bryse Wilson. The 28-year-old has appeared in parts of nine seasons during his career, with the Brewers being his sixth different team and this the second time he has played for them.

The right-hander began the season with the Philadelphia Phillies, pitching one game in June and throwing two innings. He was subsequently designated for assignment, and shortly after signed a deal with the Cubs.
His Cubs tenure was short as well, though he did appear in two games instead of one. He pitched 7 ⅔ innings, allowing seven earned runs. Wilson was DFA’d again in July after this performance.
The Brewers scooped up the reliever just before the All-Star break. In six games for them, Wilson pitched 13 ⅔ innings to a 2.63 ERA, striking out 10 and not walking a batter.
Even with his success in a limited sample, Milwaukee also decided to DFA him, doing so on Saturday. It was reported by Adam McCalvy on Monday that Wilson will elect free agency instead of going to Triple-A Nashville.
Three separate occasions being DFA’d in one season has to be rough. The good news is that Wilson is still only 28 years old, having made his debut at age 20 with the Atlanta Braves.
He has appeared in 172 total games across his career, throwing 484 ⅓ innings. Wilson has a 20-23 record with a 4.79 ERA, a 16.6% strikeout rate and 7.2% walk rate.
Though the strikeout numbers have not been great over his career, and were still relatively low this year, you would have to think some reliever-needy team would take a chance on Wilson. He has only walked two in 23 ⅓ innings this season.
