Brewers make MLB decision on $50.75 million infield prospect originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Milwaukee Brewers are a top-three team in the National League and may have just upgraded their roster.
Just a few months after signing a 21-year-old prospect to an eight-year extension, the Brewers have called him up to make his Major League debut.
According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, shortstop Cooper Pratt was promoted from Triple-A Nashville for Tuesday's opening game against the Cleveland Guardians.
Pratt's is Milwaukee's No. 4 ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline and hit .241/.349/.386 with six home runs and 17 stolen bases in 18 attempts in 58 games in Triple-A this season.
"Milwaukee will have to make a corresponding move, and the most likely odd man out is infielder Luis Rengifo, who was visited by athletic trainers twice after getting banged up in the field and at the plate during Sunday’s 4-0 win over the Phillies," McCalvy wrote. "Rengifo remained in the game, but finished the day hitting .205 with a .534 OPS and no home runs this season."

Pratt's lengthy extension shows how much trust and confidence the organization has in the youngster's future.
This is not the first time the Brewers have made this sizeable a commitment. They also signed Jackson Chourio to an extension before he made his MLB debut and, most recently, outfielder Luis Lara.
