Brewers have traded these prospects in recent years. Any regrets?

With the Milwaukee Brewers positioned as a "buyer" at the Aug. 3 trade deadline, it means most deals or rumors involving the Brewers will feature top prospects heading the other direction. That's been the case in recent years during this upsurge in Brewers baseball.

Starting in late 2022, when Matt Arnold took over as the primary architect of the Brewers' offense, take a look back at how recent prospects dealt to other organizations have fared in their new home.

The general theme, you'll find, is that the Brewers haven't really been burned by the players they've given up – at least not yet.

Esteury Ruiz​

• Position: Outfielder
• Traded to: Oakland Athletics (Atlanta Braves also part of three-way trade)
• When: December 2022
• Deal: Brewers acquire catcher William Contreras and pitchers Justin Yeager and Joel Payamps in the three-way deal, surrendering Ruiz.
• Ruiz today: He's finally finding big-league success in 2026, now with the Miami Marlins, and has an .839 OPS and 25 stolen bases. He homered against the Brewers earlier this month.
• Any regrets? None. This was an unequivocal success for the Brewers, who landed a two-time all-star catcher for a player who didn't stay with the organization that acquired him. It's one of the great trades in Brewers history.

Taylor Floyd​

• Position: Pitcher
• Traded to: Minnesota Twins (player to be named later)
• When: June 2023 to finish April 2023 deal
• Deal: Brewers acquire pitcher Trevor Megill for cash and the player who turned out to be Floyd.
• Floyd today: The 28-year-old is in Class AA with the Cincinnati Reds and has a 4.89 ERA in 23 games.
• Any regrets? None. Megill has become an all-star closer for the Brewers and an essential piece to the team's bullpen.

Jhonny Severino​

• Position: Shortstop
• Traded to: Pittsburgh Pirates
• When: 2023 trade deadline
• Deal: Brewers acquire first baseman Carlos Santana.
• Severino today: The 21-year-old shortstop has shown good power and has 24 homers and 73 RBIs in Class High A for the Pirates this year (.831 OPS), but he also has a penchant for swing-and-miss and is not among the Pirates' top-30 prospects on MLB Pipeline. Severino was one of the Brewers' top international signings in 2022.
• Any regrets? Severino's story isn't finished, so there's still an opportunity for this to sting down the line. Santana was a quality player for his 52 games in Milwaukee (.773 OPS, 11 homers), even though the team didn't advance beyond the wild-card round.

Justin Jarvis​

• Position: Pitcher
• Traded to: New York Mets
• When: 2023 trade deadline
• Deal: Brewers acquire outfielder Mark Canha.
• Jarvis today: He's a free agent, last pitching in organized ball in 2025 with a 6.38 ERA at Class AAA.
• Any regrets? None. Canha had an .800 OPS for the rest of the 2023 season for the Brewers (hitting one memorable grand slam among his five homers) and even got traded before the 2024 season for a pitcher – reliever Blake Holub, who's still at AAA for the Brewers and might pitch in Milwaukee soon.

Hendry Mendez and Robert Moore​

• Position: Outfielder and second baseman
• Traded to: Philadelphia Phillies
• When: November 2023
• Deal: Brewers acquire infielder Oliver Dunn.
• Mendez today: He was dealt again, to Minnesota in a deal for Harrison Bader in 2025. He has an .844 OPS across two levels this year and has been strong at AAA, with an .837 OPS, six homers and three steals, all with just 36 strikeouts in 204 plate appearances. Pipeline ranks him as the No. 9 prospect in the Twins organization.
• Moore today: He's got a .772 OPS at the Phillies' AAA affiliate, with 10 homers and seven steals. He's not among Pipeline's top 30 prospects for the organization, but he's still just 24 years old.
• Any regrets? Well, yes. The Brewers surrendered two quality minor-leaguers for a player who couldn't overcome his swing-and-miss issues to latch onto a spot at the MLB level, at least not in the Brewers organization.

Jace Avina and Brian Sanchez​

• Position: Outfielders
• Traded to: New York Yankees
• When: November 2023
• Deal: Brewers acquire first baseman Jake Bauers.
• Avina today: The No. 19 prospect in the Yankees organization is 23 and playing at Class AA, where he has an .885 OPS and 19 homers with 10 steals. He was a 14th-round pick by the Brewers in 2021.
• Sanchez today: Now with the Pirates, he has a .788 OPS with nine homers in 270 at-bats at Class High A. He's 22 and reaching base at a solid .344 clip but also striking out roughly once per game.
• Any regrets? Maybe there would have been if Bauers hadn't re-signed with the Brewers and become one of the top offensive contributors to the 2026 MLB team. It turns out looking like fair value for the underrated acquisition who became a bona fide success story.

Justin Chambers​

• Position: Pitcher
• Traded to: Los Angeles Dodgers
• When: January 2024
• Deal: Brewers acquire pitcher Bryan Hudson.
• Chambers today: The recent draft pick (20th round in 2023) was an overslot signing but has struggled at Class High A this year, with a 6.43 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. He's only 20 and was much more effective last year.
• Any regrets? Not for losing Chambers, though after an electric first half of 2024, Hudson fell off and wasn't relied upon down the stretch, then selected off waivers midway through 2025. Hudson's been a nice part of the Chicago White Sox success story in 2026, with a 2.96 ERA in 46 innings.

Gregory Barrios​

• Position: Infielder
• Traded to: Tampa Bay Rays
• When: Early July 2024
• Deal: Brewers acquire pitcher Aaron Civale.
• Barrios today: It's been a struggle in Class AA this year, with a .575 OPS in 76 games after posting a .587 OPS last year. He does have 30 stolen bases, though.
• Any regrets? None. The Brewers desperately needed a pitcher in Civale, who came through as a reliable starting option – and left the Brewers a gift on the way out with a 2025 trade that sent him to Chicago for Andrew Vaughn. An unqualified win for Milwaukee.

T.J. Shook​

• Position: Pitcher
• Traded to: New York Mets
• When: Mid-July 2024
• Deal: Brewers acquire pitcher Tyler Jay.
• Shook today: The big right-hander is with the Rockies now and has a 3.27 ERA in 34 games at Class AAA, with a 1.28 WHIP and eight saves. He also made it to the big leagues, making four appearances (9.53 ERA).
• Any regrets? Probably a little. Anytime a prospect who makes it to the major leagues is dealt for a guy who appeared in all of two games for the big-league franchise, that sounds like a miss, though Shook is already 28 so this isn't a catastrophe by any means.

Bradley Blalock and Yujanyer Herrera​

• Position: Pitchers
• Traded to: Colorado Rockies
• When: 2024 trade deadline
• Deal: Brewers acquire pitcher Nick Mears.
• Blalock today: He's with the Marlins now and has a 6.26 ERA in 18 games this season at Class AAA. He's appeared in 21 MLB games between 2024 and 2025 with the Rockies but struggled to an 8.16 ERA. He made one appearance with the big-league Brewers before the trade.
• Herrera today: The 22-year-old is still in rookie ball and had a 5.19 ERA and 1.68 WHIP this season.
• Any regrets? Not yet. Mears struggled after the trade deadline but had a 3.49 ERA last year before the Brewers traded him to Kansas City in the ill-fated deal that brought back a now-injured Angel Zerpa. Blalock could still get back to the big leagues with the Marlins; he's on the 40-man roster.

Yophery Rodriguez and John Holobetz​

• Position: Outfielder and pitcher
• Traded to: Boston Red Sox
• When: April 2025
• Deal: Brewers acquire pitcher Quinn Priester for Rodriguez, draft compensation and a player to be named later (Holobetz).
• Rodriguez today: He's not in Boston's top 30 prospects at Pipeline, but he has a respectable .743 OPS at Class A. He has 13 homers for a career high, but hasn't quite taken off like it appeared he might during his early days in the Brewers organization.
• Holobetz today: The 23-year-old is the No. 13 prospect in Boston's organization and has a 5-3 mark and a 4.33 ERA at AA this year. He just got promoted to Class AAA three days ago.
• Any regrets? Possibly, yes. Obviously, this looked like a steal last year when Priester became a wildly unexpected rock in the Brewers rotation. But he'll miss all of 2026 with an injury and the degree to which he returns to that initial form could inform how we look at this deal through time. The Red Sox wound up with two quality minor-leaguers and a draft pick. At the very least, both teams have gotten something out of the deal.

Jadher Areinamo​

• Position: Second baseman
• Traded to: Tampa Bay Rays
• When: 2025 trade deadline
• Deal: Brewers acquire catcher Danny Jansen.
• Areinamo today: The 22-year-old is Tampa Bay's No. 18 prospect according to Pipeline, with a .256 average and .746 OPS at Class AA, with 13 homers and eight steals. He can play second, third or shortstop.
• Any regrets? Nah. Jansen only played in 25 games for the Brewers (three homers, .779 OPS) but provided a solid backup catcher the Brewers were looking for, even though it meant parting ways with clubhouse-popular Eric Haase. Areinamo was unlikely to be protected on the 40-man roster anyway (he's now on Tampa Bay's), so while he's intriguing, it's not worth lamenting ... yet.

Jorge Quintana​

• Position: Shortstop
• Traded to: San Diego Padres
• When: 2025 trade deadline.
• Deal: Brewers acquire outfielder Brandon Lockridge for pitcher Nestor Cortes, Quintana and cash.
• Quintana today: The No. 18 prospect in the Padres organization is only 19 but has intriguing raw traits, though he has just a .678 OPS this year in Class A, with five homers. He's a quality defensive option.
• Any regrets? The Brewers surrendered a lot to get Lockridge, a player who's missed most of 2026 with a freak injury, and there's still a chance this deal indeed comes back to bite Milwaukee. But indications so far aren't that worrisome.

K.C. Hunt​

• Position: Pitcher
• Traded to: Tampa Bay Rays
• When: March 2026
• Deal: Brewers acquire pitcher Jake Woodford for Hunt and cash.
• Hunt today: He has struggled at Class AA, with a 5.53 ERA in 19 games and a 1.65 WHIP.
• Any regrets? A little, insofar as Woodford had a 6.94 ERA in 16 games for the Brewers, meaning anything they surrendered looks like a lot. Hunt had some prospect intrigue in the Brewers organization, but he struggled a little in 2025 and has really scuffled thus far in 2026.
