As a result of a makeup game, the Milwaukee Brewers battled the St. Louis Cardinals in a doubleheader format on Tuesday as part of an extended five-game series.

The Brewers came out on the winning end of both contests, with their 10-2 win in the second game being much easier to attain than the 4-3 victory in the first game. The Brewers were clicking on all cylinders Tuesday night, and that included left-hander Robert Gasser.

Gasser got the starting nod Tuesday evening following Jacob Misiorowski’s 11-strikeout performance earlier in the day. Unlike his All-Star teammate, Gasser did not fill up the stat sheet with flashy numbers, but he accomplished a major milestone.

Gasser provided 7.2 innings for the Brewers and struck out four batters while allowing four hits, two earned runs, and a walk. For Gasser, such a lengthy outing was a first for his Major League Baseball career, and he reacted to his evening with Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other members of the media after the game.

"College," Gasser said. "College I went eight, one time, one time."

Gasser has been diligently working his way back to form after it was reported by Adam McCalvy of MLB.com on June 20, 2024, that Gasser was electing to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery after landing on the Injured List on June 5 with a left flexor tendon strain.

Gasser’s choice to receive the operation occurred after a promising MLB debut on May 10, 2024, against the Cardinals.

Since then, Gasser has worked diligently to get back to the mound and resurrect his stamina for longer outings. Now, in a full-circle moment against the team he debuted against, Gasser had his longest outing of his pro career.

The Brewers needed every bit of it, too.

"Yeah, I mean, it's special, especially, I mean, as an individual, it's great," Gasser said. "But I was talking to Craig [Yoho] about it, it's like we had four guys that didn't pitch today in a doubleheader, 15 games in 14 days. So, that's gonna go a long way, I hope, and that's what I really care about."

Gasser and Yoho were the only ones to take the mound for Milwaukee in the win, and they had plenty of help from the offense.

"It was great, 3-0 turned to 3-2 real fast, and it's just great to see them freaking put up that many runs," Gasser said. "Yeah, it made my job a lot easier going out for the seventh and then for the eighth."

While Gasser relished the contributions of the Brewers’ batting order, he also wanted to get back on the mound.

"Yeah, for sure," Gasser said. "I mean, I was definitely a little impatient. It's like, you don't want anyone to get out, but you wanna get back out there. But yeah, I mean, I love the run support."
