Not since 2018 have the Milwaukee Brewers waited until the fourth round to draft a pitcher as they did Saturday, July 11, when they selected right-hander Julian Garcia out of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif., in the MLB draft.

They can only hope the 18-year-old will turn out as well as Aaron Ashby, their fourth-rounder in 2018, ultimately did.

Garcia, 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, went 9-1 with a 0.80 ERA and 107 strikeouts while walking only 10 in 12 appearances this past season after missing his junior year while he recovered from Tommy John surgery.

He was named the 2026 MaxPreps California player of the year.

Garcia finished his prep career 18-5 with a 1.86 ERA and 204 strikeouts against 38 walks. His curveball is considered to be one of the best in the draft, and he's familiar to the Brewers having played on several of their entries in California's elite showcase leagues.

He holds a scholarship offer from Long Beach State but is expected to sign with the Brewers.
