The Phoenix Suns have retained their final key free agent even before the beginning of NBA free agency.
Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Suns are re-signing center Mark Williams to a three-year, $38 million contract.
“Restricted free agent Mark Williams intends to sign a three-year, $38 million contract to return to the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN. The deal is fully guaranteed for Williams, who averaged 11 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block in 23.6 minutes per game as the Suns starting center,” Charania posted to X.
The Suns’ front office has been busy this offseason, and the reaction from fans is consensus. The majority of Phoenix fans agree the organization is doing a fantastic job.
They have now re-signed guards Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin along with Williams. Phoenix also traded up into the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft to select forward Koa Peat.
Not to mention, they’ve retained these three players on relatively inexpensive deals. Gillespie signed for four years, $48 million while Goodwin landed on a deal worth $19 million over three seasons.
“The Suns lock in the last of their own priority free agents, finishing negotiations with Williams' Excel Sports Management agents Jeff Schwartz and Jordan Gertler on Thursday night. First young guards Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin over the weekend, now Williams,” Charania continued.
By no means does Williams turn the Suns into a championship contender, but he’s a solid starting center. He is your typical ‘5’ in the sense that he sets strong screens, dominates the interior on both ends of the floor, and is a serious lob threat. His availability was a concern during his time with the Charlotte Hornets, but he proved himself by playing in 60 games last season.
Their starting lineup will now be highlighted by Jalen Green, Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks, and Williams.
Barring an unexpected trade, the majority of the Suns’ work this summer is likely behind them already.
