The Brooklyn Nets have made their first major splash of the offseason.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Brooklyn is acquiring Julius Randle and the No. 28 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft from the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a three-team trade. The Nets will send Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls, while Minnesota receives Brooklyn's No. 33 overall pick.
The move allows Brooklyn to turn a portion of its cap space into both a proven veteran and a first-round pick. Randle, a three-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection, averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 79 games last season and now joins a Nets team looking to take a step forward after several years of rebuilding.
For Minnesota, the deal is largely about flexibility. By moving Randle's contract, the Timberwolves create significant financial breathing room, putting themselves in a stronger position to re-sign free-agent guard Ayo Dosunmu while also gaining access to additional roster-building tools this offseason.
Chicago, meanwhile, lands one of the league's top defensive centers in Claxton. The Bulls address a clear need in the frontcourt and still have plenty of cap space remaining to make other moves this summer.
The Nets entered the offseason with more cap space than any team in the NBA, and rather than waiting for free agency, they used some of that flexibility to add an established player and improve their draft position. Brooklyn moves up from No. 33 to No. 28 while bringing in a veteran who can immediately contribute on both ends of the floor.
