The Cardinals did not know prior to the draft that Rosen was a possibility and hedged their bets. They signed Glennon I believe to a two year contract, the future number two for whatever scenario. We had no QBs on the roster and now the number one and two spot for next year is apparent. It's call doing whatever you can at the expense of money to get it right at the most crucial position... might as well establish the pecking order now for next season and Bradford cannot feel slighted because he still got a load of money for a sub par performance while the Cardinals found a solution

I haven’t read through this thread but I remember people getting on me for constantly hammering the signing.

Bradford should have never been signed and for 20 mill is grounds for firing Keim, and I like Keim.

I would’ve went with Stanton or even Gabbert for a fraction of the cost over Bradford. Didn’t like Keemun either.

There’s always hope though. Maybe Cousins goes down and Minnesota will give us a #1 for 3rd string Sammy :D

I can't but help but believe that something wasn't completely right with Bradford physically.

Compared to earlier years when he was relatively healthy, Bradford lacked zip on his throws - they'd start to float like balloons about 80% of the way to the receiver & put the WR's life in danger.

Playing Bradford had to rely on a bit of faith, and the Card coaching staff and medics must have guessed wrong. Their only viable option was to start Rosen.

So,far so good. Kid looks poised and makes good decisions. Possibly most important, he is throwing ropes that get to the WR on time. (It's too bad his receivers can't catch).

At least that's what I believe and I'm sticking to it.

Well, putting all else aside, he is a QB coming off of a year long knee injury. So, back from injury, he's on a new team that has a new HC, OC, scheme that everyone's trying to learn and they just drafted the QBOTF. Pressure can get to anyone.

Look at how Warner handled his time in NY. When you're head isn't on completely straight and the wolves are breathing down your neck, whether you're healthy or not your game might decline. Aside from my Pop Psy 101, whenever Bradford's knee has been bothering him his passes have tended to miss high so it may be as simple as his knee wasn't actually healthy like all involved claimed.

Actually...wasn't there a clip of Bradford being interviewed and asked about his knee and he was non-committal about it? Like, "I've thought it was healthy before and look how that turned out, so we'll see" or something like that?

Damn sure was, it’s called bad knees & being scared of defenders being around his legs.

Mike Zimmer & other staff said Sammy Checkdowns knees were shot & digenerative at some point in the last year.

On top of that the Cards coaching staff babied & treated him like a cracked china doll during offseason workouts & training camp without knowing what he could do in game situations. This is squarely on Keim & Wilks!!!

Hell me & half this board could look good in 7 on 7 & no pads. Dumb signing based on $$$ & health & dumber to not find out in game situations that he was finished.

I still think they should release him ASAP just like I said last week after he was benched.

I thought, and still think, it was a good signing. He was an insurance policy that, fortunately, we got out of because of Rosen. Don't care if we lost $15 million, it's not my money and I doubt they were going to get any awesome signings anyways. This year totally feels like a hedge your bets rebuild and I am fine with it. If by years end, we are playing very well and finish 8-8 or better, we are ready to add good stuff for next year. If we still suck, we get a coaching change and have some youth to build with including a QB. Bradford matters not in either scenario.

It’s the run game -look at the amount of offensive plays 9ers had - don’t think Rosen is the better QB - yet - but McCoy sucks - and need run production and play action.

I think that five games in has taught us that the Cardinals problems are much greater than Bradford. If I recall correctly, he threw a touchdown pass in the first quarter in one of the earlier games and the Cardinals were up 14 to nothing at the end of the first quarter. But just like today it was down hill from there. How many times has David Johnson been run in the middle of the line with poor success.

I agree and never really thought otherwise. What those first few games so clearly illustrated was that this team is not quite ready for prime time and that the growing process might as well begin. If the Cardinals had been competitive then there'd be an argument to letting Bradford continue to start but this team is in obvious rebuild mode right now. Might as well play the rookie QB and take advantage of all the slack that gives you as a coaching staff.

What surprises me is the overall lack of quality with the WR corps and the lack of use of DJ in the passing game.

We went from a shell shocked lousy Bradford to a rookie who didn't get reps as the starter in preseason.
Front office and coaches overrated the oline.

Bradford was ineffective for the most part but I wouldn't say that he was shell-shocked. We can't say that the offense is predictable, terrible and conservative, the coaching is subpar, the WR corps is a liability and they've under and poorly used DJ and then say the QB(s) should be be more productive. All of the things that Rosen is dealing with now are the same things but worse when the season started. The scary thing is what we saw yesterday is 5 games into the offense playing together and learning who and what they are.

As far as Rosen not getting reps in the preseason, didn't he get the lion's share while they sat Bradford out, protecting his knee?

Bradford was setting records on how quickly he was getting rid of the ball, almost never looking down field. He was missing receivers, his once outstanding accuracy was gone when the lights were on.

Yes Rosen was getting extra reps early on but Bradford started getting the most towards the 2nd preseason game iirc.

I just think it's a bit too much to assume he's shell shocked. The guy hadn't played or practiced for the better part of a year and was with a new team that has a new OC installing a new offense...and not doing it well. Continuity, familiarity and quality of the offense were bigger culprits than Bradford succumbing to a lousy situation. He isn't exactly a stranger to challenging situations on offense.

And painting Rosen as a rookie who didn't get any preseason reps is just inaccurate. He is green like all rookie QB's but he's had significantly more time with the starters than many rookie QB's get.

Pick whatever phrase works for you that isn't being rusty. His sack shrunk works for me.
Pretty sure that the other rookie QBs that all started before Rosen got more snaps then him.

Well now you're moving the goal posts. You said Rosen didn't get any snaps during the preseason as the starter. That's not nearly the same as he didn't get as many snaps as other rookies. Which isn't really true either. Josh Allen didn't get all the 1st team reps. Neither did Mayfield. I think Darnold was the only one who may have.

Bradford isn't shell shocked. There was a confluence of events that led to him being ineffective to start the year but he doesn't have football PTSD. He was just playing in a really lousy situation.

My bad, I wanted to say he wasn't getting the amount of reps the starter normally gets.

Rosen is in the same mess as Bradford was and although a rookie has vastly outperformed him.
I was hopeful when we signed Bradford and defended picking him up but imo he is done

He very well could be. Doubt he'll even get the opportunity to compete for a starting job at this stage of his career. But I just don't agree with how you're phrasing things. Rosen has had some good plays and give cause for optimism but "vastly outperformed" Bradford? Bradford was progressively getting better while Rosen is leveling off.

A big part of Rosen's struggles are due to his receivers and the offense but he was way off to start that game yesterday. Very inaccurate for much of the first half. Conversely, Bradford looked very good in the first half of his last start and then regressed later. The point being, both have had some up's and down's and neither really clearly outperformed the other.

In your opinion, how do you think Rosen would have performed if he'd started the season? I'm concerned that he'd going to get Goffed by the whole situation.

And Rosen didn't play after the 2nd preseason game.
