MASON — Luke Goss scored nine points in the final quarter while helping the Mason boys basketball team edge Everett 64-61 in a Division 1 district opener on Monday, Feb. 23.
Goss finished with 16 points and was one of four players in double figures for Mason as it advanced to face top seed and Southeastern Conference White champion Jackson in a district semifinal Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Freshman Layken Johnson led Mason (13-10) with 17 points and had five assists and four rebounds. Mason Dowdy added 14 points and 11 rebounds and Gavin Greathouse scored 10 points as the Bulldogs avenged their Feb. 10 road loss to Everett.
Senior Javari Funches had a game-high 22 points to lead Everett (8-13). Preston Williams finished with 19 points for the Vikings.
DeWITT 63, EASTERN 53
DELTA TWP. — A 23-point first quarter pushed the Panthers to a Division 1 district first round victory over the Quakers. Brendan Mensing led all scorers with 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Landon Kurncz picked up 15 points and Rome Dunham tacked on 10 points for DeWitt. Raul Romero tallied a team-best 13 points, Isaiah Canty notched 12 points and Latrell Travis added on 10 points for the Quakers (9-14). The Panthers (10-13) move on to the district semifinal and face East Lansing (21-1) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Waverly.

IONIA 66, ALMA 62
BELDING — Colt Piercefield led the Bulldogs with a team-high 22 points in their Division 2 district first round victory over Alma. Ethan Wenzel notched 19 points, Carter Ralston scored 12 points and Aiden Washington chipped in eight points for Ionia. Koby Shunk led all scorers with 25 points and added five rebounds for the Panthers (12-13). Penn Seeley added 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals for Alma. The Bulldogs (10-13) will face Central Montcalm (18-3) in the district semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Belding.
STOCKBRIDGE 73, CHARYL STOCKWELL ACADEMY 26
LESLIE — Jonathan Crowe led the Panthers with a game-best 24 points as Stockbridge moves on to the district semifinal with a win over Charyl Stockwell Academy (4-19). Bradley Buddenborg finished with 14 points, Remington Christie scored nine points and Noah Sandecki dished out 10 assists for Stockbridge. The Panthers (17-6) will take on Leslie (15-7) in the district semifinal at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Leslie.
HASTINGS 53, LAKEWOOD 41
Jaxon Jablonski finished with a team-high 13 points for the Vikings in a Division 2 district first round defeat to Hastings (7-14). Skyler Oberlin picked up seven points, Max Thrun scored six points and Ethan Matthews hauled in four rebounds and dished out four assists for Lakewood (6-16).
