Despite already missing over a month, it does not appear that Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet is anywhere close to returning to the field.

The Red Sox’s two-time All-Star hurler has not pitched since April 25 after being placed on the 15-day injured list and later transferred to the 60-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation. After already suffering a previous setback in his recovery process, Crochet was set to undergo further testing to see how his shoulder was healing and whether it was nearly time for the 26-year-old to begin throwing again.

Unfortunately for Boston, interim manager Chad Tracy revealed before the Red Sox's game on Monday that Crochet won’t begin throwing yet, as shared by The Boston Globe's Tim Healey.

"Garrett Crochet won’t begin throwing yet, Chad Tracy said," Healey wrote in a post shared to X. "He had a scheduled reevaluation of his shoulder (Monday), and it showed that he is 'improving,' per Tracy. But not enough to take that next step."

He had a scheduled reevaluation of his shoulder today, and it showed that he is “improving,” per Tracy. But not enough to take that next step.

Crochet faced his share of struggles this season, even before getting injured. The Cy Young runner-up from last season posted a 6.30 ERA with 37 strikeouts across six appearances before getting injured, allowing two or more runs in four of his six appearances.

Though Crochet still does not have a specific timeline for his return, MLB.com's Ian Browne shared that it's "hard to see a scenario" where the left-handed ace returns to the mound before August.

Despite Crochet's struggles early this season, he remains the Red Sox's most lethal pitcher. Getting him back would give Boston a massive boost down the stretch if the team manages to stay in the playoff picture.
