One of the big headlines heading into the Boston College Football season is how the offense will look. For all the mistakes and blunders from last year, it’s time to turn the page and start off 2026-27 with a clean slate.

An area that looks to be the most different on offense comes from their QB and WR room. Tons of changes have happened, and it’s important to examine exactly how each of those positional groups will fare out.

Quarterbacks

Based on multiple reports, QB Mason McKenzie appears to be the leading candidate to take the QB1 spot this year, with Grayson Wilson as the backup. McKenzie, a redshirt junior, has never played a snap in Division I Football. Despite his inexperience, he’s clearly shown some ability where HC Bill O’Brien believes in him leading the charge.

In an early March workout, McKenzie showcased his raw ability. He’s on the smaller side (6’1”), but utilized his strengths to the best of his ability: his arm, and mobility. These skills will fit into O’Brien’s offensive scheme like a glove, where QB’s rely on RPO’s, decision making, and reading defense’s on the go. He’s received a ton of praise from past and current coaches, who all believe he’s capable of taking the next step at the highest level of college football.

Wilson, like McKenzie, hasn’t played a snap of Division I Football. He comes from Arkansas, where he was a three star recruit out of high school. He has good size (6’3”) and solid mobility skills, there just isn’t a lot of experience there post high school. Wilson likely is the backup, but if things goes south for McKenzie, don’t be shocked if changes are made.

Overall, the QB’s look to add a different element of mobility and quick decision making for 2026-27.

Wide Receivers

The receivers group in 2026-27 is underwhelming at the moment. While they added a few names from the transfer portal, no current receiver on the Eagles roster eclipsed 200 receiving yards in 2025-2026. Granted, it’s unfair to judge them solely on yards, as some were lower on depth charts, but this is an inexperienced and unproven group.

Javarius Green, Jaedn Skeete, and Dawson Pough are looking to cover the X, Z, and Slot spots. Outside of those three, the Eagles feature VJ Wilkins, Jackson Wade, Reed Swanson, Nedrick Boldin Jr, and Landon Wright. There’s talent there, but none that defenses are gameplanning against. That is of course, none of the WR’s break out, but it could very well happen. Then again, it may not.

Offensively this group should excel with McKenzie at the helm, given this group relies on speed and contested catches. It all remains to be seen.
