Wow, guys. This has certainly turned into an emotional issue on ASFN.

It looks like DBook will be offered the max and all will be well.

Assuming that he accepts it, of course, which we expect.

All we need now are to see the Point Guard and Power Forward starting positions resolved to the best interests of getting into the playoffs.

How about an ASFN-Suns party when that happens? :)

Already resolved, Jackson is our new starting point guard and Ariza is our new power forward.

Not at all. Why am I not surprised that you're going back to the semantics though. Holy hell, this couldn't be scripted better.
Alright you win.

Even a dollar below the max is lowballing.

Literally everyone in the world believes booker should get the max.

You don’t want to anger booker but you’re not negotiating out of fear.

The press definitely should set players values.

Got it.

I think the problem here is that you are trying to equate other kinds of business to the sports business. In the sports business you need to consider keeping players happy in your negotiations because they can force their way out of you don’t.

Also in the NBA there is an absolute max that you can possibly offer and teams will ask themselves going to negotiations if that player is worth that amount. If the Suns see Booker as the face of the franchise and believe that he is worth that max number than why even mess around With a lower number.

That’s the key. If they think he’s worth it, offer it. Everyone here is assuming this. It may not be the case.

The truth is, I won’t be shocked if he gets the max. I won’t be shocked if he gets something slightly below the max.

Are you using all lower case letters on purpose?

If he gets something slightly below the max it will be an insult, JMO.

The few bucks saved would not be worth it. You give him the max and then you say that you wish you could give him more but the rules prevent it.

There is nothing to be gained by trying to save a couple million, but so much to lose.

If you give Booker anything less than the Max you'll have the entire NBA laughing at you and saying see I told you so.

This negotiation goes beyond just what Booker gets paid. The Suns have have been suffering from a culture crisis for years. They finally got lucky and landed the number one pick. Things are looking up and we finally seem to be heading in a positive direction. Whatever deal Booker gets it needs to be a perceived as a positive.

The plan needs to go something like this:

  1. Sign Booker to a contract that makes him happy.
  2. Solve the PG situation.
  3. Win 40 games and get all the talking heads talking about the SUNS.
  4. Next summer sign a big time free agent.
  5. Become one of the elite 4 or 5 teams in the league.

I was expecting extension news by now...
Got it. Sounds like they have a handshake deal that will be finalized after the moratorium on the 6th per Bordow.

Max deal sounds like. The real question is whether there will be a PO after year 5.
