Jay girls basketball wasn't the only local girls hoops team playing with a lot on the line on Feb. 27. Booker T. Washington and L.E.A.D Academy both hosted regional finals with Final Four spots on the line. One team is moving on, while another saw its season come to an end.
No. 1 Booker T. Washington 51, No. 2 Ponte Vedra 40
The wait is finally over.
After five straight regional final losses, including two on their homecourt to end the previous two seasons, the Wildcats are back in the Final Four for the first time since 2001.
Booker T. (22-3) will play in the 5A state semifinals on March 11 at CSI Companies Court at UNF Arena in Jacksonville. Game time has yet to be announced, and the Wildcats opponent will be announced after the FHSAA re-ranks the four regional champions after the regional finals.
Booker T. led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter before Ponte Vedra (23-7) answered back to tie the game 22-22 at halftime. The Wildcats responded with a defensive clinic in the third quarter, holding the Sharks scoreless for close to six minutes to build a 35-22 lead.
Ponte Vedra answered with five straight points to close the quarter, then cut the lead to 43-37 with about four minutes left in the fourth quarter before Booker T. closed the game on an 8-3 run.

The Lions (19-2) season came to an end against the defending 1A runner-up.
NFEI (16-14) led 34-30 led 34-26 at halftime before LEAD Academy rallied to force overtime.
