Former Purdue running back Zander Horvath reminded everyone why Boilermaker fans loved watching him run the football. Now with the BC Lions, Horvath exploded for a career night Thursday, rushing for 191 yards and three touchdowns on just 17 carries to lead the Lions to a 35-19 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His scoring runs included explosive touchdowns of 58 and 35 yards in the fourth quarter as BC pulled away late.

Horvath was one of Purdue’s toughest and most physical runners during his career in West Lafayette, and that style has translated well north of the border. The former Boilermaker averaged more than 11 yards per carry on the night, consistently breaking tackles and turning small openings into chunk plays. His performance helped BC rack up a franchise-record 377 rushing yards, making it one of the most dominant ground performances the CFL has seen this season.

For Purdue fans, it’s another reminder that Boilermakers continue to make an impact in professional football, even if it’s outside the NFL. Horvath’s perseverance through roster stops in the NFL before landing with the Lions has paid off in a big way, and Thursday’s breakout performance should have plenty of Purdue fans smiling. If he continues to run like this, don’t be surprised if Horvath becomes one of the CFL’s breakout stars in 2026.
