The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the top World Series contenders for the 2026 season. They made it last year, and then added a lot of talent this offseason.

Their biggest additions came in the rotation, with Dylan Cease signing for $210 million and Cody Ponce signing for $30 million. But, there's a big issue coming up for the Blue Jays this Spring: injuries.

Amid these injury concerns, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report is urging the Blue Jays to go out and trade for $56 million Cy Young righty Sandy Alcantara from the Miami Marlins.

"They're still the best team in the division, but Bowden Francis' UCL surgery and Shane Bieber's forearm issue have exposed the shortage of depth in their rotation," Rymer writes.

Presently, with their injury concerns, the Blue Jays' rotation is led by Kevin Gausman, Cease, Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, and Ponce.

Eric Lauer could be an extra starting pitcher if needed, but with the injuries to Bieber and Francis, the Blue Jays could use another MLB starter in case a starter isn't great or if there's another injury.

The Blue Jays are not shy about spending big, and if they want to go all-in for a chance at a World Series, then trading for someone like Alcantara would make sense.

The former Cy Young is owed $17.3 million this year and has a $21 million club option in 2027. He wouldn't be a simple one-year solution for the Blue Jays; he could be a two-year ace for the team.

While he had a mediocre 5.36 ERA in 2025, after the All-Star break, he put up a solid 3.33 ERA in 13 starts for the Marlins.

Rymer is concerned about the depth in Toronto and is urging the Blue Jays to add Alcantara to resolve those worries.

Alcantara would be a great pickup for the Blue Jays if they feel the need to add another starter. While it won't be cheap, the Marlins have indicated a willingness to move on from the veteran righty, and the Blue Jays could pounce this Spring to resolve the depth issue.
