Blue Jays trade idea lands Mets All-Star pitcher for two top-10 prospects originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Toronto Blue Jays are not exactly having the best season. They're 42-46 on the year, 11.5 games out of the AL East race, but fortunately only 2.5 games back in the wild card.
But, with a month to go before the MLB trade deadline, it's possible Toronto ends up as a buyer with a real chance to make a postseason run as they did a year ago. If they're buying, this team needs to explore the starting pitching market.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report proposed a trade idea for the Blue Jays with this need in mind, one that would land New York Mets All-Star starter Freddy Peralta in exchange for two prospects inside their top-10. It would be a lot, but they need to make such a move.
Blue Jays trade idea sends 2 top-10 prospects to Mets for Freddy Peralta
"The Trade: Toronto Blue Jays acquire RHP Freddy Peralta from New York Mets for OF RJ Schreck and RHP Jake Bloss," Miller proposes.
This trade idea would be a bit expensive for the Blue Jays, as they would be giving up two of their top-10 prospects in their farm system, according to MLB Pipeline.
Bloss is their seventh-ranked prospect, while Schreck is their eighth-ranked prospect. But, while they're giving up two top-10 prospects in this trade idea, it's not actually a terrible concept.
Bloss is 25 years old and has already made his MLB debut before with a 6.94 ERA in 11.2 innings as a starter for the Houston Astros in 2024. He's not someone the Blue Jays would have to fret over losing.
Schreck is also 25, and while he's not made his MLB debut, his .784 OPS in Triple-A shouldn't stop the Blue Jays from trading him this summer at the deadline.

These are two prospects the Blue Jays should be okay trading, especially if it means taking a chance on Peralta.
While the Mets righty hasn't exactly been good, posting a 4.81 ERA with a 5-7 record this season in 18 starts, he's been elite before in his career, with his 2.70 ERA in the 2025 season with the Milwaukee Brewers still worth considering.
More importantly, Peralta wouldn't be the Blue Jays No. 1 starter. He'd be able to slot in behind Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease, and Trey Yesavage.
Shane Bieber and Peralta would be the No. 4 and No. 5 pitchers for Toronto, which would give the Blue Jays a very strong rotation after losing multiple starters to injury this season.
This trade idea from Miller might seem a little too rich, considering it's two top-10 prospects for a rental in Peralta, who has a 4.81 ERA this season.
But the upside of the move would be more than worth it, and would be a great deal for the Blue Jays if it actually were to happen.
