Blue Jays-Mets Francisco Lindor trade idea would be 'worthwhile' for Andres Gimenez reason originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The trade rumors surrounding New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor have been growing.
According to Chelsea Janes of SNY, a Lindor trade is "not off the table" as the Aug. 3 deadline approaches.
Now, that doesn't mean the five-time All-Star shortstop is a sure thing to be moved. There are other complicating factors, like his sizeable contract.
If the Mets decide to field offers for Lindor, could the Toronto Blue Jays be one of the clubs in the mix?
On Wednesday, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer proposed the following trade idea:
Blue Jays Receive: SS Francisco Lindor
New York Mets Receive: RHP Jose Berrios, RHP Jeff Hoffman, SS JoJo Parker
Why would the Blue Jays be interested in this deal?
"When you play Andrés Giménez at shortstop, you get Andrés Giménez at shortstop. The defense has been predictably excellent, but his 70 OPS+ is one of many problems in Toronto's underachieving offense," Rymer wrote.
Lindor has a 99 OPS+ in 45 games this season, but he has a much stronger offensive track record than Giménez, and injuries have played a factor this season.

"Parker would be the real loss, but he would be an acceptable sacrifice for a team with World Series revenge at the front of its mind after what happened in 2025," Rymer added. "He's only 19 and at Single-A, and thus years from the big leagues."
After Bo Bichette left the Blue Jays for the Mets in free agency, Toronto was left with an offensive hole at the middle infield position.
In the short term, they could look to upgrade the position in much cheaper ways, but Lindor would be their long-term solution.
