When the Toronto Blue Jays are healthy, their starting rotation features Dylan Cease, Shane Bieber, Kevin Gausman, and Trey Yesavage.

There is a strong argument to be made that they have the best rotation in baseball when everything is whole, though it's also important to recognize that the Blue Jays just haven't been whole throughout much of this season. It's unfortunate to see what Toronto has dealt with, but it's part of the game, and they have no other choice but to deal with it.

Searching for ways to improve that, the Blue Jays should be interested in making a move at the trade deadline.

There will be multiple starters available to them, and some have even floated the idea that Toronto is interested in some of the better players, including Joe Ryan.

“The Blue Jays recently got some reinforcements with the returns of Max Scherzer and Dylan Cease, Shane Bieber is also moving closer to a return, but they still have been hit hard by injuries this year. Cody Ponce is out for the season after suffering a knee injury in April, so one more starter wouldn't hurt.

“The Blue Jays would also give Ryan a chance to compete for a postseason contender after the Twins fell apart a few years ago. They just recently reached the World Series and were two outs away from finishing the job, so one more rotation arm could really help them as they look to win their first title since 1993 this coming October,” Curt Bishop of SI wrote.

I think it would make a lot more sense for the Blue Jays to go after Ryan than Skubal.

Skubal's price tag is going to be ridiculous, and they know they won't have him in the long term unless he is willing to take an extension in Toronto, which players have shown they're unwilling to do in recent years. Ryan is in a bit of a different boat, playing for one of the worst teams in baseball, so there should be a lot of interest in him coming to the Blue Jays.
