The Toronto Blue Jays may finally be getting Alejandro Kirk back from injury.

Sure, they've been helped in the meantime by the emergence of Brandon Valenzuela.

But without Kirk since the beginning of the season, the Blue Jays may finally have their beloved catcher back in his gear at the MLB level.

This was the report on Thursday night, suggesting the return to major league action might come on Friday:

It looks like Alejandro Kirk could be with the Jays tomorrow ahead of their series with the Yankees.

Brandon Valenzuela has done everything to deserve to remain with the big club. We’ll find out soon if the Jays think the same. pic.twitter.com/EhkjXyE1PY

Kirk hurt the thumb on his glove hand and has been away from the Blue Jays lineup for about two months.

Toronto will have two decisions to make whenever Kirk is ready to be officially activated from the IL.

The first is which catcher is taken off the MLB roster. Valenzuela can be sent down to Triple-A with a minor league option, but he's been the better of the two replacements.

Tyler Heineman has no options and would have to be designated for assignment and placed on waivers. That would risk another team taking Heineman from the organization.

The Blue Jays will take their pick there, and then if Valenzuela is the guy who stays on the MLB roster, they'll have to figure out how to keep getting him some playing time even as Kirk takes the starting job back.

It's a good problem to have, because the Blue Jays will surely be helped by Kirk's return.

And that return really may be just about here.
