The Toronto Blue Jays, a division rival of the Boston Red Sox, have acquired a former Red Sox top prospect.

Toronto announced on social media that the Blue Jays acquired pitcher Connor Seabold from the Detroit Tigers for 22-year-old left-handed minor-league reliever Juanmi Vasquez.

Seabold signed a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays this offseason, but after he wasn’t going to make the team, Toronto released him so he could sign with another team, and eventually inked a deal with the Tigers.

However, after being DFA’d by the Tigers on May 24, Toronto re-acquired the former Red Sox pitcher to add more depth to their pitching staff.

Seabold was selected in the third round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2020, he was dealt to the Red Sox along with Nick Pivetta for Brandon Workman, Heath Hembree and cash.

The right-hander was the team’s 15th-ranked prospect in 2021 and 2022, and Seabold made his debut on September 11, 2021. The now 30-year-old spent part of two years with the Red Sox but he struggled as he appeared in six games, making six starts, going 0-4 with a 10.55 ERA.

In January of 2023, he was DFA'd by the Red Sox and ultimately traded to Colorado for a player to be named later to cash.
