The Columbus Blue Jackets made a roster move Tuesday night that felt a lot like a trade.

Boone Jenner was scratched just before their matchup with the Nashville Predators.

This time of year, it's the kind of thing that happens when a player is involved in trade discussions that are close to being completed. They don't want any injuries to happen.

With the deadline Friday, it was easy for fans to jump to that conclusion.

It's not the case, though. Jenner's absence is said to be not trade related:

The Blue Jackets listed Jenner as day-to-day for "maintenance," and apparently that really does mean what they said.

Jenner could still get traded by Friday, but it apparently doesn't have anything to do with what's happening right now.

The 32-year old center was a second-round pick by the Blue Jackets all the way back in 2011.

He has played all 13 seasons and 786 of his NHL games for Columbus. In his career, he has 207 goals and 203 assists.

This season, Jenner has played 45 games and totaled eight goals and 19 assists (27 points).

He could be a decent pickup if someone else actually wanted to trade for him.

At least for Tuesday night, though, the Jenner roster move is just a false alarm.
