Tennessee (21-12) defeated Northern Kentucky (13-18), 12-6, Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols ended a, 6-6, tie with six runs in the eighth inning.

The Vols led, 2-0, in the first inning after Blake Grimmer hit a two-run home run. Tennessee extended its advantage to 3-0 after Manny Marin hit a solo home run in the second inning.

The Norse tied the game, 3-3, scoring three runs on a home run in the third inning.

The Vols regained the lead in the fourth inning after Garrett Wright hit a RBI double, making the score, 4-3. Grimmer added a solo home run, his second of the contest in the fifth inning before Wright had a scoring single in the sixth inning, making the score, 6-3.

Northern Kentucky hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to tie the game.

In the eighth inning, the Vols scored two runs after Henry Ford reached on an error, making the score, 8-6. Grimmer had a RBI single and Trent Grindlinger hit a three-run home run, his first at Tennessee.

Grimmer went 3-for-5. He hit two home runs, recorded four RBIs and scored three runs, while Wright went 2-for-3.

Bo Rhudy (1-1) pitched 1.2 innings of relief. He recorded three strikeouts, while totaling 23 pitches, including 15 strikes.

Ethan Baiotto started for the Vols. He pitched two innings and allowed three runs and three hits. Baiotto recorded one strikeout, while totaling 36 pitches, including 25 strikeouts
