In 2025, Blake Corum was finally allowed to introduce himself to the NFL and while he did play second fiddle to Kyren Williams, Corum impressed with breakaway speed and big-play ability. As the season progressed for the Los Angeles Rams, Corum's usage improved.
In part due to the Rams' increased use of multiple tight end formations, and also Corum's effectiveness. Entering 2026, the Rams have one of the best running back duos in the NFL in Williams and Corum. Williams achieved his third straight 1,000-yard season last year, while Corum racked up 746 yards – and his role should continue to expand.
It's time for the Rams' offense to evolve. Last season, they threw the football around without worry as their offensive scheme and the players executing it were operating at award-winning levels. That was then, and this is the reality of today. Davante Adams is a year older, as is Matthew Stafford; teams are built to defend the pass, and the rushing game has resurged.
We are watching offensive football turn back in time. If that is the case, the Rams need to use Corum more to open up everything else within their operation.
The Rams' use of multiple tight end formations forced defenses to match with linebackers or defensive backs. Either way, the Rams had the advantage. This will continue to be a problem, especially as the Rams expand Terrance Ferguson's usage.
What's the easiest way to scheme tight ends open? Strong play action. The best way to set that up is with a quarterback under center who has a running back that is shifty and can take a carry to the house at any time.
Stafford is one of the best at turning his back to the defense, so the threat of Corum should force defenses to stack the box, allowing Stafford to target the rest of the field. Williams will get his work, too. He's needed to hammer the defense early, weakening their will for Corum's fresh legs to exploit.
The NFL is becoming a running league. Corum is a championship-caliber back. It's time for him to take over in an increased rushing campaign.
