There are two Divisional Round games that will have poor weather conditions this weekend, but the Buffalo Bills won’t be playing in one of them.
Instead, the Bills should have breezy but mostly clear conditions when they travel to the Mile High City for their matchup with the Denver Broncos. While it won’t be as warm as some of the start to Denver’s winter has been, the Buffalo won’t exactly be playing in a frozen tundra.
The weather impacts on the game are expected to be low, said Fox Weather meteorologist Ian Oliver, with wind really the only variable that could impact the game and even that would be minimal.
“I’m not sure that a 10-15 mph wind is really going to stop Bo Nix or Josh Allen from doing their thing,” Oliver said.
While Denver has had temperatures in the 50s and 60s in the early part of its winter and the game won’t feature that, but the mercury should be in the upper 30s, Oliver said.
“For a mid-to-late January game, it’s really as good as you’re going to do,” he said.
The National Weather Service in Denver agrees, with the forecast calling for a high of 39 degrees during the game, with some clouds and winds out of the west northwest before changing to the west southwest near the end of the game.
The AccuWeather forecast is more of the same, with temperatures in the upper 30s, gusts into the low teens and less than 50% cloud cover expected.
With temperatures above freezing and wind speeds below 15 mph, there isn’t much in the way of impacts expected despite playing a January playoff game in an outdoor stadium at altitude. Betting sites like OddsTrader, RotoGrinders and RotoWire acknowledge the possible wind impacts, but view them to be light.
The top-seeded Broncos are favored by just a point at home over the Bills, coming off a big road playoff win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The over/under is set at 46 points.
