The Buffalo Bills are narrowing down their search for the head coach. And amid former Giants HC Brian Daboll gaining serious interest for the job, the organization will interview a surprise candidate.

We are talking about the former Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers, who just had his last NFL season at the age of 44 in 2025. However, after announcing retirement for the second time, the veteran QB is appearing for the HC Job in Buffalo.

Rivers built one of the most durable and statistically productive quarterback careers in modern NFL history. Drafted fourth overall in the 2004 NFL Draft, Rivers spent 16 seasons as the franchise quarterback of the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers before closing his career with the Indianapolis Colts in 2020.

Over 247 regular-season games, Rivers completed 5,335 passes on 8,226 attempts (64.9%) for 63,984 passing yards, 425 touchdowns, and 212 interceptions, while recording a 95.0 career passer rating, per ESPN’s official statistics.

Additionally, the former Colts QB has earned eight Pro Bowl selections, led multiple top-five offenses, and he also ranks among the NFL’s all-time leaders in both passing yards and touchdown passes.

However, despite his extensive on-field resume and reputation as a cerebral general, Rivers has no coaching experience at the college football or NFL level. Since retiring after the 2020 season, he has not held any formal coaching position in either league.
