Bills get brutal NFL Draft grade as questions surround GM's strategy originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

We are at the stage of the NFL offseason when fans and media are assessing teams' draft hauls, and when it comes to the Buffalo Bills, the franchise did some good business.

We have seen some grades that are glowing in what general manager Brandon Beane did. But others aren't as good.

Of course, it is all subjective as no one really knows the plan from inside the building, but that hasn't stopped some from giving their thoughts.

And for Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame, he's given Buffalo a D+ for its draft haul.

"This ranking isn’t just about the players Buffalo selected. It’s about the strategy of general manager Brandon Beane and how the pieces fit," Verderame wrote.

"Perhaps Buffalo’s most inspired pick was UConn receiver Skyler Bell, who had a 1,000-yard season in 2025. However, he plays in the slot, which is occupied by Khalil Shakir. The Bills have a litany of intriguing talents with odd fits. "

Bills facing pressure-packed 2026

You will be hard-pressed to find a team under more pressure to perform in 2026 than the Bills. Ok, maybe the Baltimore Ravens, too.

With the Bills failing again in the postseason last year, Sean McDermott lost his job, and now it is up to Joe Brady to push the franchise along. But there will be no grace period; the organization needs wins, and it needs them now.

The draft class will play a key role in helping achieve the goals set out by Brady and his staff, as it feels like anything other than a Super Bowl will see the pressure get turned up even more.

There's no breaking-in period for Brady. He needs to get playoff results, and he needs to get them in Year 1.
