Bill Simmons has joked that he’d require medical attention if a Boston team lost in the way that England did to Argentina in the World Cup semi-final.
Not many onlookers regardless of just how much they are into soccer would have seen Argentina winning after England scored first in their huge game.
They may be world champions but they were not creating many chances, with Lionel Messi unusually quiet by his own high standards.
Still, England ceded control in Atlanta and allowed Argentina back into the game. They played too defensive too early and that meant perhaps their greatest footballing rival found a way to progress into the biggest game the sport has to offer.
Simmons jokes he’d be upset if a Boston team lost like England
Taking to social media platform X, Simmons wrote: “If a Boston team lost in the way England just did, I’d honestly need medical attention.”
That was certainly a painful defeat from an English perspective, so it’s easy to see what Simmons is getting at.
To be so close to reaching the World Cup final against a huge rival, only to throw it all away will take some getting over.

Fans are rightly asking questions as to what happened. Though Argentina are clearly a brilliant team, the way in which the momentum turned all too quickly will live long in the memory.
The fact that Argentina keep finding a way would suggest it’s not down to luck. Yet, it’s difficult not to feel as if England threw their chance of reaching a second World Cup final away themselves.
No matter what sport one follows, to see your own team prove architects of their downfall is a painful experience.
Simmons certainly isn’t wrong here. Medical attention might be a touch dramatic but there will clearly be an awful lot of soul searching going on within English football over the next few days and weeks.
