Bill Simmons Explains Why He Doesn’t Believe Celtics Will Trade This Player For Giannis Antetokounmpo originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Monday that the Milwaukee Bucks are interested in acquiring the Celtics' young playmaker, Hugo González, along with Jaylen Brown, in a potential trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
However, it seems that Boston has no intention of moving González. Bill Simmons does not anticipate a scenario in which the Celtics would be willing to trade González.
"I’m just gonna say…. I would be absolutely shocked if Hugo was/is thrown into any Giannis trade offer," Simmons wrote Monday on X. "The entire organization is all-in on him - (Brad) Stevens prob the most. They could not be higher on him. I genuinely don’t believe he’s involved. Guess we’ll see."

Boston selected González with the 28th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and he had a solid rookie season. Although González recorded only 3.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 74 games, he showed a lot of potential in limited action.
The Celtics probably want to keep González because he is young. If Boston is going to trade for Antetokounmpo, it may have to give up a few draft picks to make the deal happen, which could limit its options to build young talent over the next few years.
