Redheart's rivalry thread got me thinking...

Which NFC West opponent do you consider to be our biggest rival?

I definitely think it's the 49ers. I've hated them all of my life, but the nature of the games that we've played over the past 5 years it what really makes it different. Some losses against their otherwise winless teams kept us out of the playoffs, and it seems the rest of our games always go down to the wire. These teams fight each other very hard.

Sure, the Seahawks were the class of the division for a while, and we've played some vital games against them, but just not with the same intensity as we do against the 49ers.

I think there's reason that each one of them could be a rival, but none of them have really distinguished themselves as such, yet, IMO.

Seattle - They've been the best team since we went to the West, IMO. We've been gunning for their top-spot for a number of years.

9ers - Their fans are cocky and arrogant despite being crappy. These games also seem to always be close, hard-fought games.

Rams - Franchise history should point to the Rams as the most natural division rival.

Poll the cards players and I bet it's the seahags. The time on top sealed it. You don't see dockett/boldin and others making comments like they have about the seahawks. You don't see dockett in twitter arguments backvanf forth with niner players etc...

Oh and btw bim we hve had this poll before I'm certain of it.

I think Seattle. If you ask this question before a Seattle game the results might be different. Niners haven't won the conference in ages.

The second best thing that ever happened for this franchise, behind the stadium, was moving to the NFC West. And, I DO NOT miss dealing with those ****** NFC East fans eight times a year.

Sums up my thoughts exactly

Last year it was no doubt the seahags and this year it seems to still be the hags we hate to go into qwest field so much and I can't stand the whiners the most myself personally but I think the team is more tilted towards the seahags as a bigger threat year in and year out.

I did'nt see a place to put my vote so I did'nt.

As a fan, I think 9er fans are the worst so that's where I'll place my vote. A friend's wife is a 9er fan and she is still living in the 80s and talks like the Cards are in the 90s and it pisses me off to no end.
Based on team performance, I currently have to give it to the 9ers as well. They are the only team that plays us tough and makes a close game of it anymore.
The Seahawks used to be the standard of the division, now the Cards are, and our closest competitor is the 9ers.
That's my argument.

In a way the Seahawks *should* be the Cardinals rivals, because the Niners-Rams rivalry holds over from the old NFC West. Plus both the Cards and Seahawks were the 5th wheel in their former divisions, and this is their first chance at a real rivalry. But that history is being built now--and you can't force it. Things also get confused because the fans in Saint Louis don't have a rivalry with the Bay Area--Southern California did. And they DO hate Bidwill, but that's not totally returned by most Cardinals fans.

I've been gone from AZ for years, and though I've always stayed a fan, I largely missed out on the visiting Niner fans (and Valley Niner fans) who always seemed to be able to inspire Cowboys-like acrimony. So I don't automatically put the Niners on top, but I got why many do.
