Johannes Dale-Skjevdal's biathlon mass start victory gave Norway a Winter Olympics record 17th gold medal on Friday.
No country has ever won so many golds at one Games, with Norway bettering their own mark of 16 golds from the previous edition in 2022 in Beijing.
More gold looms in the remaining 18 medal events at the Milan/Cortina Games, especially in the men's 50 kilometres cross country ski race where Johannes Høsflot Klæbo can complete an unprecedented sweep of all six men's golds and make himself the most successful athlete at one Games.
Apart from Klæbo's five golds so far, Jens Lurås Oftebro also stood out by winning all three Nordic combined golds.
Norway have six cross-country golds in all, the other coming from the women's relay, plus three overall in biathlon, two each in freestyle skiing and ski jumping and one in speed skating.
Norway topped the medal table after 98 events Friday afternoon with 36 medals overall, nine more than the next best nation, the United States whose 27 include nine golds.
