Johan-Olav Botn hit all 20 targets to claim gold for Norway in the Olympic 20 kilometres biathlon race on Tuesday.

Botn, the early season World Cup leader, was 14.8 seconds ahead of French contender Eric Perrot and 48.3 seconds quicker than his Norwegian contender Sturla Holm Lægreid.

Perrot and Lægreid missed one of the 20 targets each. In the 20km each miss is penalized with one minute added to the skiing time instead of a penalty lap.

Italian home team hope Tommaso Giacomel had to settle for sixth place with three missed targets.
