Gore is a tough warrior but his injuries since college are starting to mount and Jackson of the Rams had back problems of last year. I will take Beanie Wells and Hightower over the rest of the West and I'm dead serious. And I will go one farther, we still have the best WRs and while Leinart is no Warner, he is better than Alex Smith, a rookie in St.Louis and the often injured Hassleback. We are still the NFC champs and still will be!

It is between the 49'ers and Cardinals. The Rams offensive line is horrible, and Jackson is the only back worth diddly-poop. The Seahawks are searching for a RB, and offensive line.

Between the Niners and Cardinals

It really comes down to the offensive line. Unless you consider your 3rd and 4th backs, where the Cardinals MAY have a slight advantage.

Right now I consider Gore and Wells are push. Gore obviously has the production and well earned respect, but he is getting older. Wells has the youth, but not yet the production and earned respect.

Hightower may be better than Glen Coffee but I have not seen enough out of Coffee to make that determination. Yet, when I did see Coffee play, he looked pretty good.

In terms of Robinson/Nixon vs. Wright/LSH it is of course debatable, but I find LSH to be a big weapon, where Robinson, the wildcat option, seems to have not found his niche.

As for the offensive line. The Cardinals are not even in the re-building stage, they are in the improvement stage. 5 years ago the Cardinals had offensive linemen starting for the club, that today wouldn't even make the roster. Right now, not only is the line stable, we are looking to constantly improve each position at every oppourtunity.

The 49'ers are still trying to stabilize their line. The fact that there might be 2/3 rookies on the 49'er offensive line is going to be an extremely rude awakening for all the 49'er hopefuls. Cause the line is going to have growing pains, and there is no Kurt Warner at QB to make the quick read, and release to compensate for the inexperience in front of him. Let's just say that it is a good thing Alex Smith is mobile, Crabtree is tall, and Gore is beast because there is going to be a lot of, hope & a prayer plays on offense in SF this year.

It is close but I think the Cardinals will be able to run at will this year, and I don't think any other West team will be able to do so.

Agree, but let's not forget the single biggest area that differentiates these two teams. Whiz on our sideline gives us another edge over the 49ers. I'll give Singletary his due as a motivator, but he gets outcoached more times than not. I absolutely love the fact that the niners continue to be everyones choice in the NFC West. September can't come soon enough!!!!!

I can't put us at the top, but it is certainly debatable. The best RB in the division (Jackson) belongs to another opponent. That being said, I still have to give it to the 9ers. I believe Beanie is going to be a really good back but I would still put the 9ers over us. I like Gore a lot and the 9ers had a better YPC, more TDs, and less fumbles than we did last year. It's certainly going to be intriguing seeing how our rushing attack pans out.

i've heard this story one too many times... first it was Dennis Green and JJ Arrington! Then, we can't miss with Edge! Then, Wiz is gonna make us a smashmouth team. You know what all of that has gotten us? Ranking almost dead last for 6 years.

Gotta walk before you can run. We started walking last year with Beanie (who I love). I hope that continues this year but until I see it with my own eyes, I've got to give it to the Niners.

Also ran the ball well in the playoff run to the Super Bowl. I suppose that was baby steps.

More like jogging. Taking out the exhibition game in week 17 vs Green Bay the Cards averaged 125 yards per game rushing in their last 10 contests. 8 regular season and two playoff games.

The first 7 games they averaged 65. In 2008 they averaged 77.2.

On the other hand 2009 was the third time in the last 6 seasons the Cards have ranked dead last in rushing attempts.

good stuff Duck.

a committment to a run game...what an idea. You can't have one unless you attempt to have one. But many said our Oline can't run block...

I'll counter that by saying that the only way we don't become a team that runs the ball often enough to not be in the bottom third of the league in rushing, is if Leinart suddenly becomes a top 10 QB. Otherwise, we'll be calling runs a lot more than we ever have this millennium.

I don't think it's even all that close. The Cards tandem is head and shoulders above the rest. Jackson is coming off surgery and was run into the ground last year, Seattle doesn't have a running game but could change if the get Lynch, and SF inexplicably seems to want to build their offense around Smith. I don't think even they know how they want to use Gore. Look at last year, they seemed to completely forget about him in mid-season.

Agreed, and I am just as confused.

Any Cardinals fan knows about Frank Gore, and how Frank Gore can make you feel really bad about yourself, and the football team you watch.....really bad.

I also think we will have a good running attack. That much depends on Leinart. If he cannot hit the target the defense will line up to defend the run and we want have such a good running attack. You got to have both to keep the opponents honest. I am amazed Warner was so prolific with such a marginal runing game. So much depends on Matt being able to perform and the fact is none of us know what he is going to be? All Pro or All Bust.

We are really going to need Matt to keep the defense honest and complete some passes. I think teams are going to play 8 in the box until Matt can prove he can play.

I was too for a long time. But not anymore. The reason is Whisenhunt. Coach Ken will have Leinart set up to be able to make the same throws. Just like he did when he went to the old folks home in Dennygreenville Arizona to get a QB to take his team to an NFC Championship.
