Colts left tackle Bernhard Raimann’s status remains uncertain as the Colts begin a week of preparation for the San Francisco 49ers.
Raimann, the team’s starter on the blind side, suffered an elbow injury on the team’s touchdown drive near the end of the first half, left the game and did not return to the lineup.
The big left tackle did return to the sideline with his helmet and his right arm heavily taped while wearing a brace, but he apparently was on the sideline only in case of emergency.
“We’ll see how the week goes,” Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen said. “Obviously, he’s dealing with that elbow.”
With Raimann out of action, the Colts turned to Luke Tenuta, who played 26 offensive snaps Sunday, more than he’d played in his entire career to this point. Before Sunday’s 18-16 loss to the Seahawks, Tenuta had played just 25 total snaps in his career, taking seven offensively and 18 on special teams with the Packers in 2022.
Indianapolis is already perilously thin at tackle. The Colts started fourth-round rookie Jalen Travis at right tackle in place of Braden Smith, the veteran who went on injured reserve due to a concussion last week, ending his season.
“I thought (Tenuta) went out there and battled like crazy,” Steichen said. “He's been doing a hell of a job for us all year, so to get this opportunity and go out and scratch and claw like he did (is good).”
But the Colts would clearly love to have their normal left tackle back in the lineup on Monday, even though Raimann has a long way to go after injuring his right elbow in Seattle.
“He’s tough as nails,” Steichen said. “I love Bernie, so we’ll see how the week goes, and we’ll go from there.”
