Change was always coming for how the Cincinnati Bengals operated their Ring of Honor.
After a few years of getting some must-have greats in the still-new Ring of Honor, the Bengals have made some slight tweaks to the process for 2026.
Starting this year, the Bengals have mixed in younger candidates. An expanded ballot means those from the original offerings will have a harder time making it from here on out.
A visual of the ballot this year, which features some modern greats like Geno Atkins and Leon Hall:
The poll begins Monday for season ticket holders and will help enshrine inductees.
"We've had five very successful years with the tradition, and this expansion caps it off and takes us into year six with some freshness and added energy," Elizabeth Blackburn, the club's director of strategy and engagement, said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.
Since 2021, the Bengals have seen the original list of nominees reduced to just seven. Moving forward, the goal is to make entry difficult, assuring the prestige of the Ring for the long haul.
Blackburn touched on the voting process, too, per Hobson: "This is part of why we set the voting structure up the way we did. The longer time Season Ticket Members who were there and lived through the 1980s Super Bowl teams, their votes count for more. It's still the weighted voting process, so we try to factor that in to make the Ring of Honor prestigious, highly engaging, and a meaningful tradition."
