Bemidji State pushes second-ranked Ohio State in 1-goal loss

Oct. 11—COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ava Hills got he first taste of Bemidji State women's hockey on Friday night in a 6-0 loss against No. 2 Ohio State.

The Saint Anselm transfer stopped 20 shots in relief without giving up a goal. It was enough to earn the start on Saturday, and she nearly led the Beavers to a monumental win.

Hills stopped 50 of the 52 shots she faced in a 2-1 loss against the Buckeyes.

Hailey Armstrong started the scoring midway through the first period. The Bemidji State junior scored her sixth goal this season, this time on the power play. Kate Johnson and Morgan Smith picked up assists.

Emma Peschel tied the game with 81 seconds left in the first period with assists from Hilda Svensson and Kassidy Carmichael. Svensson scored the game-winning goal in the second period with helpers from Mira Jungåkar and Leah Wicks.

Hailey MacLeod made nine saves to earn her second win on the weekend. Bemidji State falls to 2-4-0 and 0-4-0 in WCHA play.

BSU forward Paige Smith exited the game in the first period with an injury after colliding with an opposing player. The OSU broadcast said she was taken to the hospital. This story will be updated when further information is provided.
