Bears trade proposal sends two picks to Browns for elite defender not named Myles Garrett originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Chicago Bears aren't expected to be done this offseason, as there are still a few days for them to get better off the football field.

Many Bears fans want them to go out and add an edge rusher, but that doesn't mean other parts of the defense don't need to improve. The secondary is an area for the Bears to get better in, and a recent trade proposal would help them accomplish that.

Ralph Vacchiano proposed Chicago going out and getting Denzel Ward from the Cleveland Browns for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder, a deal that would make a lot of sense for Chicago.

“They need help all over their defense, including at edge rusher. But upgrading at cornerback might be the Bears' biggest priority.

“Ward is a five-time Pro Bowler who is still only 29, and the Browns would be smart to dump the remaining two years of his contract to free up some salary cap space. Ward could either be Chicago's third corner or step in for the erratic Tyrique Stevenson. It would also free up the Bears to target a defensive lineman early in the draft.”

More importantly, as he touched on, this would be an opportunity for the Bears to go out and still address a need early in the draft. The Bears would be moving on from decent draft capital, but nothing too crazy.
